uplowder: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why is it called Uplowder and what does that mean?

No idea, the name just came to me (and the domain name was cheap)

Is it secure?

Yes, I use your browser's Cryptography API to ensure that (even if I wanted to), I can't read any files you transfer

Do you store my files?

Kind of, I store an encrypted version of them. That no other device in the world (apart from your receiving device) can understand

For how long?

10 minutes, then they're wiped from storage

Should I trust you?

No (just like anyone on the internet)

Can I trust you?

Yes

Can you look through my files?

No, it's impossible for me to see what you're transferring. Through the magic of Cryptography and the two devices only swapping public keys. Only your receiving device will be able to understand (decrypt) the file

So I'm just going to take your word for it?

No, you can use your Browser's DevTools to see what the site is doing. When the file is being transferred over a network, it's encrypted. Or you can even view the code for the site in the DevTools. I've left it unminified so it's easier to read

Do you store any information about me?

No

What about application logs etc?

🤣🤣🤣

What about cookies?

1. I love them. 2. There's only one on this site, that's to tell if you've been here before, and whether to show the quick "Getting Started" section on the homepage

Why did you create this?

I've used some simple C# and Html/CSS/JS to create the site. Oh wait, you asked "why?" didn't you?

So.......?

I take a lot of photos of things on my phone that I need to move to my laptop quickly. Moving them onto Google Drive, downloading on my PC/Laptop, takes far too long. I also forget to remove them, which fills up my storage. This is just quicker

Doesn't the name sound like something rude?

No it doesn't Ian, you should say it the same way as "Uploader"

Why don't you support IE11

It's trash and dead

Why isn't there any colour to the site, are you alergic?

Nearly, I'm actually colourblind, but quite enjoy the simplicity and contrast of the site

Who are you?

My name is Ryan, I have a blog

Have any of these questions really been asked "frequently"?

No
